Michael Brimacombe has just reported the sad news that another of our well-remembered old boys Richard Parfitt has recently passed on. I remember bumping into Richard at the Bluebell Railway a number of years ago when I was buying tickets in the booking office and was surprised to see him behind the tiny window. I can also remember acting with him in “The Ivory Door” in 1961. It is indeed from the Bluebell Railway website that we have confirmation of his passing. I am afraid we have no further details.
First are the emails from Michael followed by the entry on the Bluebell Railway website:
As a member of the Bluebell railway, I have noted a mention on their website – www.bluebell-railway.co.uk – that an ex pupil – Richard Parfitt – has passed away. I spoke to him several times in the past about our school days so I know it is the same person although he was not particularly communicative and he left the Bluebell a few years ago so I havent seen him for a while. I believe he was a year older than me, I left in 1963 so he probably was about 67 years old. May need a second source for confirmation before you enter on the “absent friends” register.Hello ColinThanks for reply. If you go to the Bluebell website www.bluebell-railway.co.uk and click on “new” (top left hand corner) and scroll down about a page you will see the item there about Richard. I dont know his family at all but if you also knew him from the Bluebell then I dont think there can be any possibility of a mistake. All the bestMichael Brimacombe
Richard Parfitt I am very sorry to report that former Trustee and Vice Chairman, Richard Parfitt, has passed away, peacefully in his sleep after a short illness. Richard had given a long service to the railway and for many years held the post of joint chief booking clerk. As an elected Trustee and as Vice Chairman, Richard also held the post of Operations Director for the Company and oversaw several changes during his tenure. Naturally our thoughts go out to his family Laura, Theo and Amy at this very sad time. Details of funeral arrangements will follow.
Richard’s name has been added to our Absent Friends page along with 33 other old boys and teachers.
